December 14th, New Orleans, LA. “Downriver Holiday Art Show and Sale #2” is taking place on December 18th,12-4pm at Crevasse 22 | Riverhouse. Our opening event on December 11th was so successful, despite the rain, we are going to reprise the event. There will again be a featured collection of work curated by Sabrina Schmidt, displaying art for sale that she and other Plein Air painters have painted outside in the nature of the landscapes around St. Bernard.
Her group of Plein air artists includes Jennifer Blanchard, Claude Ellender, Oksana Fogg, Ben Hamburger, John Killeen, Christina Juran, Linda Lopez, Pat Richardson, Phil Sandusky, Sabrina Evans Schmidt, Adrianna Speer, Sarah Griffin Thibodeaux, Mary Vinson, Hal Wilke. These Plein-air artists have been periodically painting landscapes of St. Bernard since August.
Complementing the Plein Air works is a collection of important contemporary art curated by Creative Alliance of New Orleans and Crevasse 22 Director Jeanne Nathan, including Ron Bechet, Nurhan Gokturk, William Guion, Taja Janel, Kevin O'Keefe, Gina Phillips, Jennifer Odem, Robert Tannen, Robin Tanner, and Michel Varisco. Their work, for sale, includes paintings, sculpture, woven work, pottery, and photographs, all reflecting landscapes in different ways. Visitors will enjoy the art, other interesting people, gumbo by Myrna Hinyub, catfish by the Fish Shack, donut holes from Geralds, and hot apple cider, since the day is expected to finally bring us some holiday weather, and hopefully purchase work.
“We make sure people experience all the pleasures of our unique traditional and contemporary culture and the growing creative industries economy in St. Bernard,”said Jeanne Nathan. Crevasse 22 | River house owner Sidney Torres “welcomes people from St. Bernard and beyond to experience the extraordinary growth in the creative industries sector led by The Ranch, our film and media production studio, as well as the growing number of arts venues that have developed since the 2014 opening of Crevasse 22 | River House. Plein Air artist and curator Sabrina Smith is “delighted to be able to show St. Bernard parish in all its glory in the work by the Plein Air artists who have been working throughout the parish since June.”
For those who need help finding their way, go straight down St. Claude to St. Bernard Highway to Poydras. When you get to the first and only light after Paris Road, you see Guillory's store on the left, and a purple and pink snowball stand on the right. Make a right, and turn immediately right again over a railroad track onto Saro Lane. Follow that until you come to the levee, see gate in the fence on the left, enter, and drive towards the art center to park.
