Enjoy Louisiana-made films, back-to-school art supplies, landscape painting
August 5, 2022, New Orleans, LA New Orleans is the 4th largest film and video center in the nation, and The Ranch film studio in St. Bernard is filled to the brim with projects, so it is fitting for the Crevasse 22 I River House in St. Bernard to present a Mid-Summer Mini-Film Festival between 11am and 5pm on August 14th. We will be showcasing works produced here in Louisiana for this our third Summer Sunday this year.
We will be showing some of our favorites, including “The True Don Quixote” starring Tim Blake Nelson and Jacob Batalon, directed by Chris Poche, and produced by Trey & Beth Burvant, and Jason Waggonspack, with Sidney Torres III of The Ranch Film Studios. See information on all films to be shown below.
Guests are also invited to join the "plein air" painters with artists led by Sabrina Schmidt who will be painting around the sculpture garden, nearby woods, and levee on the Mississippi river, twice the site of crevasses, or breaks in the levee, the first one natural in 1922; the second one exploded by New Orleans officials to allegedly and mistakenly head off flooding of New Orleans. It flooded St. Bernard, but it was a crevasse above New Orleans that relieved pressure from the 1927 flood.
The Creative Alliance of New Orleans and the Torres|Burns Trust have also worked with local retailers to provide back-to-school art supplies available Sunday, first come, first served.
"People have loved our summer Sundays out in our natural setting surrounded by Live Oak Trees, shore birds, and the adjacent Bayou Terre aux Boeufs that became a pond after the crevasses, but we are hedging our bets this year with the film fest indoors just in case we have one of the downpours that have become common this summer," said Jeanne Nathan, Executive Director of the Creative Alliance of New Orleans who produces cultural events at Crevasse 22 | River House, courtesy of the Torres | Burns Trust, owner of the property.
“Roberta Burns and I have been enjoying hosting people from all over the region and beyond, sharing both the natural beauty of the site as well as the creative work of regional creative artists," said Sidney Torres III.
“We're excited to add filmworks to the programming since we have made a commitment to advancing St. Bernard as a center for film and video production," said Torres.
Sculpture in the garden and artwork inside the River House art center will also be on view, and refreshments will be available for one of our typical family-oriented Summer Sundays at Crevasse 22 | River House.
